Thai Deep Fried Food By Nine

The word “Tod” in Thai means “Fry”.  The Thai deep fried food actually originated from the Chinese.  Traditionally, Thai cooking methods were stewing, baking and grilling.  The Chinese introduced fried food to local Thai people from the early days of their first trading in Thailand.  They started by selling “Guay Teow Rard Na” or fried rice noodles in soy sauce with either pork, beef or chicken gravy to go on top.  Since those days, the use of oil for cooking, influenced by the Chinese had been known extensively in Thailand.  These included the introduction of frying, stir frying and deep frying.  The Chinese also serve their hors d’oeuvres with fried food, such as “Hae Guen” or fried shrimp balls and “Gui Chai Tod” or fried garlic chives.
