Museum of Siam: Discovery Museum, a division under National Discovery Museum Institute (NDMI) was established for the first time in 2007 and aims to be a new form of museum that enhances the new experience of visiting museum. Museum Siam creates a new identity of “Museum” in the Thai history and utilizes an interactive and multidisciplinary, with galleries dealing with a range of questions about the origins of the nation and its people.

Philosophy of NDMI is “Play + Learn = Plearn” (the Thai word for enjoyment) and is the key approach of NDMI activities. Presentations are both fun and informative, with plenty of interactive exhibitions to effectively convey the educational narrative. The showcases are most ranging from hand-on exhibitions as being an alternative source of knowledge accessible to all. It offers learning of Thai history with fun by allowing visitors to play interactively with cutting edge multi-media technology.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”16px”][vc_single_image image=”2845″ css_animation=”fadeInUp” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded” border_color=”grey” img_link_large=”yes” img_link_target=”_self” title=”Thai history in a new and innovative style in the Museum Siam – Thank you picture from dek-d.com” img_size=”full”][vc_empty_space height=”16px”][vc_column_text]The Museum Siam is creating a new experience, especially for children and young people. It creates a sense of knowing their neighbours and friends. The modern technology and creative activities make learning history and stories more interesting than before.
While the Museum of Siam is set inside a very large European-style 19th-century building that was once the Ministry of Commerce, it is definitely not the usual display of historical artifacts and dusty mannequins one would expect to find in such an antique building. The entire museum is dedicated to this ‘Thainess’, the history of Thai people and the evolution of their culture and traditions.
From room to room, ‘The Roong” (Thai word for rainbow) transports one through all things Thai, from the very beginning of Ayuttaya to the daily life and highlights of Thai history, wars, Buddhism and finally the rapid entry into the modern world. Every room is superbly decorated and time will pass faster than expected, with many interactive displays. Each room has an informative narrated video started by a sensory detector. There is also an Ayuttaya-era battle game to enjoy, a room full of traditional Thai toys and a street vending cart where visitors can pretend to cook fried noodles and take photographs.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”16px”][vc_single_image image=”2844″ css_animation=”fadeInUp” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded” border_color=”grey” img_link_large=”yes” img_link_target=”_self” title=”‘Thainess’, the history of Thai people and the evolution of their culture and traditions – Thank you picture from dek-d.com” img_size=”full”][vc_empty_space height=”16px”][vc_column_text]The museum shows the development of Thailand from the past to present with fun and amusement through the interactive and games exhibits. It is located not far from Wat Po, so after visiting Wat Po, jump in and cool off in the air conditioning rooms while learning something about the Thai culture. It is a great introduction to Thailand’s spirit and tradition and would add to a nice day trip in this part of Bangkok.
The Museum of Siam is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm (it closes on Monday) and is free of charge from 4 – 6 pm. The tickets for admission have different prices. A ticket costs Baht 50 for students (15 years and below). For Thai adults the price is Baht 100 and for foreign adults it is Baht 300.
