Vegetarian festival in Thailand was influenced from Chinese. Every year during the vegetarian festival, the Thai-Chinese will join the festival for 10 days. They will follow the stick dietary regulation. For example, do not add some vegetable into cooking such as basil, garlic, spring onion and galingale. It is a vegetable that has a strong smell with high Yin-Yang (Chinese element) which may reflect to increasing sexual desire, the cause of frustration and easy to lose temper.

The vegetarian festival is a way of Thai-Chinese living to gain merit making by purifying their minds, get out of the comfort zone, healthy reason and pay respect to their ancestor and Gods. It is also related to spirituality and believes for future prosperity. Visit Bangkok Chinatown during that period is colorful which enrich in culture to see.
