Why you need to eat like a local to taste ?

When you visit a foreign country, the last thing that you want to do is eat at fast food chains that you already have in your own country. If you have the luxury of visiting Bangkok, then you would definitely not want to miss out on the amazing foods rich with spices and flavour. The Thai food in Bangkok is reason enough to want to take a trip there. The trick is simply knowing where to go, especially if you want to undertake eating like a local.

Good Food court

If you want to dine in comfort and having a sense of home (not to mention air conditioning!) then eating at the mall might be the way to go. If you choose to go this route, then Siam Paragon is where you want to go. Not only does it have great food at the food court, but is one of the biggest shopping malls in all of Asia. The food court at Siam Paragon Shopping is not a regular place. The shops in this food court were selected by the owner of the shopping mall and the restaurants are well known for Bangkok people and located all over Bangkok.

How does the food court work?

The food court there works very much like a cafeteria. Memorize the price of what you grab and then pay for it at one of the two cash registers. There is an absolute plethora of different types of food from curry dishes to wonton soups. If you continue further in you have the Food Gallery that offers such items like Thai coconut tacos and steamed pork buns. If you venture even further you’ll come to the Gourmet Market that supplies prepared food to groceries from all corners of the Earth, from Asia to the Western world. There are even free-standing small restaurants within the mall that has American, Vietnamese, and Japanese food. The concept of this place is to make it easy to access Bangkok restaurants within one shop instead of wandering all over town. Who knew that you could get such quality and variety from a mall?[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”16px”][vc_empty_space height=”16px”][vc_column_text]

Another fun way to experience Thai food is to go all out and get a private tour guide that knows all of the tricks and will allow you to try out a variety of different local foods. Bangnamphung Floating Market is located only thirty minutes outside of the local business district of the local Bangkok suburb referred to as Bang ka choa. This area is nicknamed the “Oasis of Bangkok” due to all the lovely foliage. The tour doesn’t only get you amazing food, but also an amazing tour! Bangkok Food Tour at Local market

There are small local markets such as Dindean, Huay Kwang, Nangleang, Wongeiang Yai, Talad poo, Wanglang, or Tor Kor and Tahphachan that are famous and have a lot of street food vendors. Local people go for quick to-go food. You can find Mom & Pop small noodle shops and places with snacks and drinks which may have been established over 30-60 years ago. Wangleng and Thapharachan is not far from a famous royal temple and the grand palace. You can a private tour guide to visit if you travel with them.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”16px”][vc_single_image image=”3262″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded” css_animation=”fadeInUp” img_link_large=”yes” title=”Nang leang Market – open air area & resident area”][vc_empty_space height=”16px”][vc_single_image image=”3261″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded” css_animation=”fadeInUp” img_link_large=”yes” title=”Nang leang Market – rice soup”][vc_empty_space height=”16px”][vc_column_text]

Bangkok Food Tour at Up-scale open air market

Talad Boung ma chea is located on the way to Donmuang airport. It is an upscale local market with a big food court. During midday, hundreds of locals go there for lunch. My favourite dish is chicken with steam rice and Isan sources. There are also restaurants that serve organic food, fresh vegetarian dishes and goods on sale.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”16px”][vc_single_image image=”3260″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded” css_animation=”fadeInUp” img_link_large=”yes” title=”Bon mache market – picture from OKNATION.net”][vc_empty_space height=”16px”][vc_single_image image=”3259″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded” css_animation=”fadeInUp” img_link_large=”yes” title=”Bon Mache Market -Picture from www.blonggang.com”][vc_empty_space height=”16px”][vc_empty_space height=”16px”][vc_column_text]

Floating market near Bangkok – Old community

The last place I’ll recommend, naturally, is Chinatown. It is absolutely packed with street stalls, markets, carts, and restaurants. This is a fun way to discover authentic foods while exploring. Chinatown also has a rich history as being the original place where street food began in Thailand over 200 years ago! It’s very fun to make your way from cart to cart and find new foods and see that Thai food really can exceed your expectations, even from a simple cart. If you want to feel like a local, the first step is eating like a local. If you try even one of the three options I’ve provided, you’ll no doubt gain a new perspective and appreciation for this beautiful country and everything that it can offer.
